A Connecticut elder law attorney can provide help to seniors in making plans to get the care and support they need as they grow older. Often, when seniors age, they experience age-related infirmities or develop illnesses that make living alone impractical or impossible. If this occurs, it becomes important for those seniors and their family members to find a new appropriate living environment for the elderly person who cannot live independently any longer.
Not all institutional living facilities are created equal, and some senior living environments provide a very low quality of life, so it’s important to carefully research options to reduce the chances that a senior will end up in an assisted living facility or nursing home where abuse or neglect are a big risk. Seniors and their families should work with Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates to research different care options and to find a way to ensure that high quality care is affordable.
There are new developments being constructed regularly and new care facilities opening their doors on a regular basis in order to cater to the needs of a rapidly aging population, so seniors should make sure they remain aware of all of their different options for where to live if they can’t live on their own any longer. Just recently, for example, Multi Housing News published information on a new senior living center that is under construction in Connecticut.
New Senior Center Under Construction in Connecticut
According to Multi Housing News, the new senior living center will span 93,000 square feet. The center will be both an assisted living facility as well as a memory care facility that is specifically designed to provide help and support to people with dementia.
The senior living center is going to be called Maplewood Senior Living, and it will be located at Maplewood at Southport in Fairfield Connecticut. The project is expected to provide 98 units when it is completed and it is scheduled to be done in 2019.
The senior living center will not only include 98 units for seniors to live in, but it will also include many activities and recreation areas for older residents. The facility is located on a 27-acre site that was purchased by Maplewood and it will offer 10 acres of natural landscaping. Inside of the facility itself, there will be an open display dining room that features farm-to-table food. There will also be a pub on site, a bistro, a salon, a spa, and a library available to residents.
This is one of several recent facilities that Maplewood has launched. In August, Maplewood Senior Living Center also launched Mill Hill Residence, which was a full-service community for seniors in the Cape Cod area.

Seniors who are considering their housing options should look at many different factors to determine what type of facility is the right one for them. Seniors need to look at the services that the different facilities provide, as some can offer more supportive services than others. For example, those suffering from dementia will need to ensure they are in a facility equipped to handle patients with memory issues.
Seniors may also need to consider the cost of different facilities, whether the facility is covered by Medicaid or Medicare, and whether the facility has a good reputation for providing quality services or has been cited in the past for problems. Checking the staff-to-patient ratio can also be important as many nursing homes are understaffed, leaving seniors vulnerable to neglect.
Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates can provide the help that seniors need as they make a decision about what type of care facility is right for them. We can also provide assistance making an advanced plan to get the costs of nursing home care paid for if such care becomes necessary. Medicare and private insurance usually won’t cover nursing home care so unless you want to pay out of pocket, you should work with our firm to explore ways to protect assets while getting means-tested Medicaid to pay for the costs of your care.
