Proudly Serving the Greater Hartford, CT Area
This is not just a legal website. Behind the pictures and the words, there are genuine human beings who have a passion for this area of the law.
We are very proud to call Hartford our home. Hartford is one of the oldest cities in the country, and it is one of the most historic. Our city, which has been dubbed “The Insurance Capital of the World,” is chock-full of culture. Educational and recreational opportunities abound, and simply put, Hartford is a great place to raise your family.
As a local law firm, we have seen the difficult circumstances that can arise for Hartford families when the proper planning has not been done. People often come to us looking for help after mistakes have been made. We can usually control the damage, but we can plainly see how things could have been different.
Jeffrey Nirenstein is our vice president, and he is one of the founders of our firm. As a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, he is deeply steeped in the laws of our state in a general sense. Jeffrey is also a member of the Estate and Probate, Elder Law, Business Law and Real Estate Sections of the Connecticut Bar Association, so he is firmly embedded in the local estate planning community.
Speaking of community, Jeffrey and his family reside in West Hartford. They are very active in the community, and in fact, Jeffrey and his wife Ellen have lived in West Hartford all of their lives. The Nirensteins are a local family in every sense of the word, and they enjoy helping people in the community that they have always called home.
Our other founding partner is Barry Horowitz. He is a renaissance man of sorts who studied philosophy and music before entering the legal arena. As a graduate of the Connecticut School of Law, his Connecticut roots also run deep.
Just living somewhere is fine, but there are those who feel a need to actively contribute to the community. Jeffrey Nirenstein and Barry Horowitz are two of those people. They are very active in local community activities and events, and they have generously donated their time to important local causes.
What We Do
Now that you know who we are, we can let let you know what we do. As estate planning attorneys, we help people craft their legacies. If you take the right steps, you can pass along assets to each of your loved ones in the ideal manner. There are numerous different ways to go about it, so the ideal estate plan will depend upon the circumstances.
For example, estate planning for local Hartford business owners can require the implementation of certain techniques. Asset protection is a priority for some people, and estate planning for blended families can sometimes call for the utilization of some advanced estate planning tools.
Estate taxes can be a consideration as well. High net worth families can face estate taxes on the federal level and/or the state level. These taxes can significantly impact your legacy, but there are steps that can be taken to ease the burden.
We also specialize in elder law. The population is growing at an unprecedented rate due to the aging of the baby boomer generation, and there are a lot of people entering their senior years at the present time.
One of the major elder law issues of our current era is the matter of long-term care and the expenses that go along with it. Medicare does not pay for living assistance, and most seniors will require help with their activities of daily living at some point in time.
Nursing homes and assisted living communities are extremely expensive, and the prices here in the greater Hartford area are significantly higher than the national averages. We help our clients protect their assets from potentially devastating nursing home costs.
