Communities We Serve – Middletown

Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates is here for you if you live in Middletown, CT and you want to put plans in place to protect your family and secure your future. No one has any guarantee of how many tomorrows will be available to them, and if you don’t have plans in place in case of serious illness, injury, or your passing, you and your family could face significant unnecessary additional hardships when tragedy strikes.

Coping with illness, injury, or the loss of a loved one can always be challenging, but if you have no incapacity plan, asset protection plan, or legacy plan in place, everything becomes more difficult and there is substantial risk of financial loss or of the wrong decisions being made. Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates can provide the help that you need to ensure that you are as prepared as possible for whatever life brings your way, so give us a call if you live in the Middletown area and you’re ready to make a plan.

Life in Middletown

Middletown, Connecticut is located on the Connecticut River in Middlesex County. It’s considered to be a centralized part of Connecticut, and is only about 16 miles south of Hartford.

Middletown was once a vibrant industrial center and was a thriving port, but now Middletown has mostly become a residential area that is also popular with tourists. Main Street in Middletown has plenty for everyone to do, including residents and visitors alike, as there are many stores, restaurants, and bars in the area.

Senior Services in Middletown, CT

In Middletown, Connecticut, an estimated 13.4% of the population was aged 65 or older as of the most recent census.  Seniors who live in Middletown can benefit from staying connected to their local community and from taking advantage of community-based services available to the elderly.

To find out about some of the services seniors in Middletown can access, visit the Senior Services website for the City of Middletown, CT. According to the website, senior services are part of the Recreation and Community Services Department, which is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Anyone who is 60 or over and who lives in or around the Middletown area can take advantage of the services and tools provided to seniors.

The location for the Senior Services center is 61 Durant Terrance, Middletown CT 06457.  You can reach the center via phone at 860-638-4540. You’ll find out details about events such as Bingo, bus trips, and craft fairs. You’ll also be able to get assistance with Medicare enrollment, and can sign up for different fun events such as lunch at a community cafe event.

Sometimes, however, you’ll end up needing more intensive and costly services. Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates can help you to make certain that you do not have to impoverish yourself to get this care. We can help you protect the wealth you own while qualifying for means-tested Medicaid. Medicaid provides broader coverage than Medicare, as Medicare does not pay for custodial care in nursing homes while Medicaid does. Since most people need custodial care, getting Medicaid could save you from spending thousands of dollars on nursing home care.

Probate Courts in Middletown

In Middletown, if you have a probate matter, it will likely be decided at the Durham Town Probate Court, which is located at 94 Court Street in Middletown, CT. The telephone number that you can use in order to reach this court is 860-347-7424.   You can learn more about this probate court,, and about probate proceedings in general, by visiting the website of the Judicial Branch for the State of Connecticut.

As the Judicial Branch for Connecticut explains: “Connecticut’s Probate Courts are responsible for a broad range of cases involving children, seniors, persons with mental illness and adults with intellectual disability.”

Probate courts preside over guardian or conservator proceedings, which are necessary when someone has become incapacitated without making an advanced incapacity plan.  A guardian or conservator may need to be appointed in order for that guardian to make decisions on behalf of the incapacitated person. The guardian or conservator will have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the incapacitated person.

Probate courts also preside over the probating of an estate, which is the process that takes place by which assets are officially transferred to new owners. Going to probate court can be complicated when a loved one has passed on, but it is important to move assets to heirs or beneficiaries as quickly as possible while ensuring that the will being presented wasn’t made under conditions of fraud or duress.

Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates can provide you with help during any type of probate proceedings, whether you are seeking to be appointed a guardian or conservator or whether you are going through the process of transferring a deceased person’s things to know owners. We represent the executor of an estate, heirs or beneficiaries, those who wish to contest a will, and anyone involved in guardianship proceedings before the Middletown probate court.
