Fostering A Resonant Family Dynamic

September 21, 2012 //  by Barry D. Horowitz, Estate Planning Attorney

People sometimes discuss estate planning with rose-colored glasses on, assuming that all families are comprised of people who always agree about everything. In fact, the typical family is going to try to maintain a harmonious dynamic but it can sometimes be challenging because of the diverse personalities that comprise the family.

This is something to keep in mind when it comes to planning for aging and your eventual passing.

As for the eventualities of aging, the possibility of the need for long-term care is going to enter into the equation. Incapacity planning is something to consider as well, and this could include your choice of representatives to act in your behalf should you become unable to make your own decisions.

Clearly, different people can have different opinions about these matters, so it is important for you to assert your own choices legally while communicating your reasoning to your loved ones so that there are no hard feelings or misunderstandings.

Speaking of hard feelings and misunderstandings, these can sometimes arise when certain parties become apprised of your final wishes. If possible it can be a good idea to explain your reasoning in an effort to circumvent any future problems such as challenges to your wishes after you pass away.

As you are crafting a legacy plan it is a good idea to discuss the entire 360° with an expert. If you would like to do so, take action right now to arrange for a consultation with a  Image 87Hartford estate planning lawyer.
