A Connecticut nursing home planning lawyer helps patients and families to find high quality nursing home care. There are problems with nursing home care in the U.S., with millions of seniors suffering abuse at the hands of paid caregivers. Many nursing homes are understaffed or are staffed by people who don’t have proper training. Many care facilities are also owned by corporate conglomerates who don’t really care about patients. Within this troubled climate, finding a good nursing home is essential to make sure that a senior who goes into a nursing home has the very best quality of life possible.
The good news is, you can find great nursing homes, including many facilities in the Connecticut area. Just recently, CT Watch Dog reported that five care facilities within the state of Connecticut received National Quality Awards.
You want to do your research and find care facilities like these if nursing home care becomes necessary. You also need to make certain you have a plan in place to pay for high quality care. Nirenstein, Horowitz & Associates can help you with making your plans and finding the right nursing home care facility. Give us a call to find out more.
Connecticut Nursing Homes Receive Quality Awards
According to CT Watch Dog, not only were five Connecticut nursing homes recognized with national quality awards, but a West Hartford nursing home also received special recognition. The West Hartford home was one of just three nursing home care facilities within the United States this year to: “receive the highest level of recognition from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living.”
The home which was bestowed with this important award, which is called the Gold Quality Award, is called Hughes Health and Rehabilitation Center. It is located in West Hartford and it was started 55 years ago by a medical doctor. The doctor who started the care facility actually still owns it to this day. The home has been working for years to try to achieve this honor. They first had to receive a Bronze and Silver level award and then they had to complete a comprehensive review process. This included having four different examiners come to the facility for a two day period of time during which staff members were interviewed. A lengthy written study also had to be submitted for consideration in order for the gold level award to be handed out. The process was described as “tremendously rigorous.”
In total, there have been just 31 homes that have gained this special distinction since rewards began being issued. Previously, two other Connecticut nursing homes were honored with a Gold Quality Award. These included Manchester Manor Health Car Center, and Glen Hill Center in Danbury.
The other homes in Connecticut that were recognized for quality received Silver and Bronze awards this year. Touchpoints in Manchester was the recipient of a Silver Quality Award, while bronze awards were handed out to another Manchester home as well as a home in Stamford.
All of these awards are based on a set of criteria which is used to determine how well a nursing home ranks. The considerations in assessing whether a home is deserving of an award or not include strategic planning done by the care facility; the satisfaction of residents; the satisfaction of nursing home staff members; the leadership of the nursing home facility; and whether or not the care facility is able to achieve “superior” results with patients or not.
When a home is given the Gold Award, the home will be able to hold the award for a five year period of time. At the close of this five year period, the Connecticut care facility may re-apply and will once again need to go through the rigorous screening process in order to make certain that it still meets all of the criteria.
